EXAM
We recommend a comprehensive examination unless you are being seen for an emergency. This complete exam will include the following:
oral cancer exam
gum exam to check for periodontal disease
check existing restorations
radiographic (x-ray) exam to detect decay, abcesses, tumors, cysts, etc
TMJ exam ( jaw joint)
PROFESSIONAL CLEANING
A professional cleaning involves removing hardened plaque known as calculus (or tartar). Calculus can build up above and below the gumline. If bone loss has occurred from periodontal disease you may require more extensive treatment than just a routine cleaning. After the removal of the calculus the teeth will be polished.
Cleaning your teeth during your first visit depends on how long the examination takes and whether you require more involved periodontal treatment.
